SUMO Academy

There are many ways of learning the lessons of SUMO. Attending a presentation or a seminar, reading the SUMO books… these will give you a good overview of the principles and leave you with skills for life. And having Paul McGee as a speaker or facilitator at your event will prove memorable and inspiring.

But what happens when you want to get out there and spread the messages of SUMO to a wider audience? What if there was a way to infuse your organisation's culture with the SUMO philosophy which could be sustained and developed long term, without having to keep calling upon Paul's services?

That's why we created the SUMO Academy - a four day highly intensive programme aimed at training a select group of individuals to become SUMO champions within your organisation. The Academy is a unique opportunity to learn directly from 'The SUMO Guy' himself. You'll develop your understanding of SUMO to a deeper level - and you'll also get a one year license to use the SUMO material by incorporating it into your own workshops, training courses and seminars.

The SUMO Academy is also aimed at a second group of people - those who are working as self-employed trainers, presenters or speakers but want to incorporate the SUMO resources into their own material. The Academy will give you expertise and a one year license to use the SUMO material.

Those who have attended the SUMO Academy say it is quite literally life-changing. We asked one group about their experiences of the Academy and how SUMO has helped them both in business and in life:

The programme includes:-

  • In depth exploration of all six SUMO principles and how they can be applied and adapted in their organisation.
  • Coaching and instructional techniques on how to deliver a SUMO workshop in an engaging and memorable way.
  • An opportunity to deliver a SUMO session and receive feedback from Paul.
  • A comprehensive workbook and DVD to use in the SUMO sessions you facilitate.
  • An opportunity for a one day review and further coaching, six months after the original programme.

The approach

By committing to this programme your organisation is entering into a partnership with The SUMO Guy, Paul McGee. This is not an ordinary training course. It's an investment in discovering and applying principles that can have a long term impact on the culture and performance of your organisation. Its aim is to influence how your people interact with themselves, their colleagues, their customers and their communities. SUMO is for life - it's not the latest management fad that is here today, gone tomorrow.

The goal for the participants is threefold.

  1. Think SUMO. Understand the attitude behind the philosophy and the psychology around each principle. We need to be sold on SUMO before we can sell it to others.
  2. Act SUMO. The philosophy's aim is to influence and shape behaviour. Those completing the programme are challenged to be a role model for the SUMO approach. It should influence their day to day lives, their decision making and their conversations with others. SUMO coaches should be recognised by their behaviour not by their title.
  3. Spread SUMO. Not everyone will attend the SUMO programme but the goal is that all employees should be influenced by it. The role of the SUMO coaches is not simply to be a role model but also a teacher of the principles to others within a variety of contexts and settings.

SUMO success! What people say…

Every organisation these days needs to be looking for value for money... we made an investment in over 2,500 of our staff attending a SUMO seminar with Paul McGee. Staff were given insights and ideas that could help them be more effective at work, deal more positively with the challenge of change, and build better relationships with both the public and colleagues. The overwhelming feedback has been that the sessions were inspiring, thought provoking, humorous but above all practical in helping my staff make a positive difference. I would have no hesitation in recommending Paul McGee and his SUMO philosophy to any organisation.
